halloween

We got mixed reviews about Halloween from our various friends here. With some saying that they don't do anything to celebrate Halloween, and others, mostly the other North Americans, saying that there's lots of places to trick-or-treat. We didn't know what to expect but decided to get the kids costumes anyways and make the most of it on  Halloween night....

first off; some pumpkin carving!

not impressed that she didn't get to carve a baa baa face on the pumpkin

costume #1 for Carter and the final pumpkin result: a 3 eyed monster

trying to decide which costume to wear...Averie is wearing Carters skeleton costume now

and the final choice: costume #2 with costume #1's mask for Carter and a kitty cat for Averie

We were surprised to see twice the amount of trick-or-treaters out that we usually see back home! And it was so nice to have such mild weather for Halloween... no bundling up with winter coats and ski pants under the costume this year! There were lots of flats handing out candy from the entrance to their building and some from the upper floors.

this guy was howling and wickedly laughing while lowering candy from his 2nd floor flat in a bucket!

We met up with Carter's best bud, Jack, for some trick-or-treating (he also has a skeleton costume!). Jack's from Melbourne, Australia.   His Mom told us they don't trick-or-treat down-under at all, so they wanted to come with us to see how it's done!

Next we headed to the Boltons, an area nearby where some of the wealthiest homes in central London are.

The first Bolton house (only about 20 million pounds to own this place!). It was fun to see behind the big gates we always walk by and sneak a peak into these ritzy homes! At one house we thought the owner was dressed up as a maid for Halloween, then we realized she really was the 'household staff' when the owner came out!

another Bolton house all decked out

It was a really fun night and great to experience in London!

The kids had a ball and it was a great atmosphere in the neighbourhood, but in the end it wasn't as much of a haul on the candy side of things (fine with the parents!).
