a yoga adventure

I've been putting off finding a yoga studio since we got here. Partly because it took me so long to find a studio I loved when we first moved back to Calgary, and partly because when I googled yoga studios in London, I was totally overwhelmed by the sheer volume! However, the lattes and croissants are catching up with me... so the quest for a a good yoga studio is on!

First stop, recommended to me by my neighbor, is The Life Centre in Notting Hill. Like most yoga studios, they have an unlimited 10 day pass for the price of one yoga session so that you can try a variety of different classes. Day one was Tuesday, and boy was I glad to be back! It was just a basic yoga class with all the traditional poses, perfect for someone who's been on a long break!

Thursday night's class was a different story altogether, it was the strangest yoga class that I have ever been to, with an even stranger yoga teacher! It totally lacked the calming, stress relieving atmosphere that I love and felt more like... I don't even know... Maybe it was the teacher, who was a very nonchalant, reserved guy with a very quiet, monotone British voice that was extremely hard to understand and seemed like he'd rather be anywhere else. Worst of all, when we were laying in the resting pose at the end when you're supposed to be so relaxed you're almost asleep, I suddenly heard some strange noises coming from the heating vent which was only a foot away from me... It was this scratching and scurrying that could only have been from mice (or worse yet, rats!) running around in the ducts. Well the only thing I could picture was the mice escaping and running all over me while I'm not supposed to be moving!!

I think I'll probably give the studio a chance for the last seven days of my pass, but maybe stay far from the wall with the vents!!!
