Trooping the Colour

This past weekend we set off to cross another destination off our site seeing list, a tour of Westminster Abbey. On our way there, we started to notice an increase in the amount of people flocking to the Palace and wondered what was happening. As we got closer the volumes of people were similar to that of the wedding day (well maybe half as many which is still a crazy amount of people!).

The Mall and sidewalks surrounding the Palace were all barricaded.

We saw mounted horses which made Averie's day.

Saw guards with furry hats.

We quickly found out that it was the Queen's Birthday Parade celebrating her official birthday/coronation anniversary (her real birthday is April 21). A celebration also known as Trooping the Colour.

First came some of the Royal Family riding up The Mall back towards Buckingham Palace.

Kate, Camilla and Prince Charles (This time I actually got to see them!)

Then came the marching bands, foot guards and mounted troops.

And finally Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip

Followed by Princess Anne and Prince William on horse

It was a really interesting historic celebration to unexpectedly happen upon! What lucky timing we had that day!
